The elevator descended in silence, each floor taking me further from the life I'd known. My reflection stared back at me from the polished steel doorsโhollow eyes, trembling hands clutching a single suitcase that held the remnants of my existence. Twenty-seven floors. I'd counted them going up so many times as Hades' wife, excited to return home to him. Now I was counting them going down, each number a nail in the coffin of our marriage.
